Williams to head CA fixed-income
Credit Agricole has appointed Graham Williams as head of fixed-income markets for Asia (ex-Japan), succeeding Frederic Laine, who has taken up a new position as head of financial institutions group international client coverage for Asia (ex-Japan).
Zabidi to head
Bank of America Merrill Lynch has hired Azhar Zabidi as head of origination of the equity and debt capital markets team in Malaysia. Zabidi, who started work on September 1, joins from Kenanga Investment Bank where he headed the investment banking division.
Szeto's comeback
After nearly 2-1/2 years since quitting DBS Bank in March 2008, Diana Szeto is making a comeback. The loan market veteran has rejoined the Singaporean bank in Hong Kong as senior vice president in the syndications team. The responsibilities she is tasked with are similar to those she handled before leaving the bank in March 2008.
Daiwa FIG hires
Daiwa Capital Markets has made three senior investment banking hires in Hong Kong. Thomas Jackamo will join as managing director, head of financial institutions group for the Asia Pacific region, ex-Japan. He most recently held the position of managing director, FIG, at RBS.
Religare India IB boss
Religare Capital Markets has hired Nalin Nayyar as head of India investment banking. Nayyar joins from Citigroup where he was a managing director of investment banking. Prior to that, he worked for Lehman Brothers in India and London. Nayyar will report to Tarun Kataria, CEO of Religare Capital Markets India, and to Sutha Kandiah, global head of investment banking, based in Singapore.
Lim moves up
Derek Lim has been promoted to director, head of Asian ECM syndicate and blocks at CIMB. He reports to Patrick Tan, group head of ECM. Lim previously held the position of associate director in ECM.
RBS loses ECM head
Stanley Ho, promoted in June to head of ECM for Asia Pacific at RBS, has resigned. Some rumours suggest he is returning to UBS, while others say he is going to the buy-side.
StanChart adds key hire in China
Standard Chartered Bank has appointed Yi Meng as managing director and head of strategic client coverage group in origination & client coverage China. Meng will also be appointed vice chairman of Asia capital markets, and CEO of corporate advisory. Based in Beijing, Meng reports to Rahul Goswamy, global head of the strategic client coverage group.
New role for Rajagopal
Another UBS stalwart, A Rajagopal, the head of its ECM operations in India, is said to have quit to join Standard Chartered Bank for a broader, regional role. Banking sources said Rajagopal would become head of South Asia and South-East Asia for Standard Chartered and would report to David Douglas, the head of Asia ECM. Rajagopal moved from Kotak Mahindra to UBS in 2006. He is set to move to StanChart in mid-September.
Raju to Deutsche
DWS Investments, the mutual fund arm of Deutsche Asset Management, has appointed Rajan Raju as MD and CEO, DWS Asia and global head DWS Solutions. He will be based in Singapore and will report to Ingo Gefeke, global head of distribution and product management, DWS Investments. Raju joins from DBS Bank where he was a member of the Executive Committee and head of its consumer banking group.
Malhotra for Merrill
Sanjiv Malhotra has been appointed as India country risk manager and a member of the India country leadership team at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He will be based in Mumbai and will report to Rahul Singhal and Barbara Taylor. Malhotra joins from Indonesia’s Danamon Group where he was chief risk officer and a board member. Before Danamon, he spent 20 years with Citigroup.
Barclays names Asia veteran to head DCM
Jon Pratt, the former head of Asian bond origination at Merrill Lynch, is to return to Hong Kong as head of debt capital markets for Asia ex-Japan, ex-Australia, at Barclays Capital.
Lim to HSB
Hang Seng Bank has hired Stanley Lim as senior vice president for its syndicated loans team. Lim started with the bank in mid-August having joined from Woori Bank in Hong Kong, where he worked as vice president since the beginning of 2010. At Woori, Lim was part of the corporate finance team.
Bajaj back at CS
Credit Suisse has hired Sanjeev Bajaj as head of fixed income for India. Bajaj joins after a year at JM Financial and reports to Mihir Doshi, India chief executive, and to Carsten Stoehr, head of fixed income for Asia Pacific.
Leaving London
Citigroup has appointed Patrick Perret-Green head of foreign exchange and local markets strategy for Asia ex-Japan, a new title.
HSBC hires heavily
HSBC has announced a series of equity appointments for its global markets division in Asia Pacific. Chetan Patni has been appointed managing director, head of execution and sales trading, in India. Patni will be jointly responsible for HSBC’s Indian equity business with Haresh Srivdasani, managing director, head of equities, and will report to Rakesh Patel, managing director, head of equity sales and trading, Asia Pacific.
Religare hires again
Religare Capital Markets has hired Martin Robinson as head of corporate finance for South-East Asia. Robinson was most recently head of sponsor coverage Asia at Macquarie and has 11 years of transactional experience in Australia and Asia. He will start work in around two months’ time. Robinson joins the investment banking team led by Sutha Kandiah, global head of IB.
Chao to Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley announced that Sean Chao will join the firm in early December as chief executive officer for Taiwan, based in Taipei. The appointment comes as the firm continues to build on its strong track record in the market. Chao, an 18-year veteran of UBS, has been the Swiss bank’s head of Taiwan since 1998. Morgan Stanley is currently the number two ranked international broker in Taiwan.
RBS shuffles FIG pack
Royal Bank of Scotland has hired Kenneth Tung as a managing director and head of its financial institutions group for Asia Pacific. Tung joins from Lazard, where he held a similar title, and will report to John McCormick, chief executive of the global banking and markets platform in Asia Pacific, and William Fall, global head of FIG.
BNP hires more in PF
BNP Paribas has hired Daniel Hanning in its project financing team in Sydney, luring him from RBS. Hanning worked at the British lender for 10-1/2 years and was most recently a director in RBS’s infrastructure finance team in Sydney. At BNP he will report to Prema Balakrishnan, head of project finance for Australia.
