Paul Au

China Merchants Bank International

Paul Au is head of fixed income at China Merchants Bank International, the offshore investment banking platform of China Merchants Bank, responsible for primary issuance and secondary market sales and trading. He joined CMBI in 2017 after over six years at UBS, most recently as co-head of debt capital markets for Asia, and earlier spent eight years in debt syndicate at Citigroup.

Paul Carrett

FWD Group

Paul Carrett is the group chief investment officer for FWD Group, a pan-Asian insurance business, where he oversees the investment function and is responsible for investment strategies across the Group, capital structure in multiple currencies, covering asset classes ranging from government bonds to private equity. A qualified actuary, he moved to Hong Kong with Goldman Sachs in 2007 and covered the insurance sector for JP Morgan and UBS before switching to the client side. He joined FWD Group from Prudential in 2016.

Desmond How

Gaoteng Global Asset Management

Desmond How is head of fixed income at GaoTeng Global Asset Management, a joint venture between China-focused investment firm Hillhouse Capital Management and technology giant Tencent Holdings. He joined GaoTeng in 2017 after almost 10 years at Nomura, where he was responsible for proprietary credit trading as head of global capital management, based in Hong Kong.

Cliff Tan

MUFG Bank

Cliff Tan is East Asia head of global markets research at MUFG Bank, covering currencies, rates and economics across Asia and the G3 markets. He has worked as an economist at the US Federal Reserve, lectured at Stanford and the University of Hong Kong, and written research and advised on trading strategies for Citigroup and UBS, among others. He joined MUFG in 2011 and is based in Hong Kong.

Michael Taylor

Moody’s

Michael Taylor is chief credit officer for Asia Pacific at Moody’s Investors Service, where he is primarily responsible for thematic and macro research in the region. He joined Moody’s in 2013 after a long career in the official sector, having worked for the Bank of England, International Monetary Fund and the Financial Stability Board, among others. Taylor was head of banking policy at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority for three years until 2007.

Avinash Thakur

Barclays

Avinash Thakur is head of debt origination for Asia Pacific, covering bonds, loans, high grade, high yield and leveraged finance. He joined Barclays in 2012 and was promoted to head of origination in 2014. Before joining Barclays, he worked with Citigroup, Deutsche Bank and Merrill Lynch and has spent a total of 20 years in the Asian debt market.
